Should You Get Travel Insurance?

Hey Reader,

Do you get travel insurance for your trips abroad?

Travel insurance can cover you for all sorts of eventualities, from trip cancellations to lost luggage and medical bills should the worst happen while you are away.

I never leave for a trip without travel insurance, and I was very glad I had insurance when I had my laptop and passport stolen in Ecuador!

I look for cover for my belongings in case they are lost or stolen, and for health coverage in case I get sick or injured while I’m away.

I also like to have coverage for lost luggage and trip cancellations, and make sure I’m covered for adventurous activities like scuba diving or horse riding, which I often do when I’m travelling.

Having electronics coverage for my laptop and phone is also very useful, as these are expensive items that are essential for my work as a digital nomad and blogger.

I hate having to think about the worst things that could happen, but I would much rather have insurance and know that I don’t have to worry about covering the cost of replacing all my belongings or having to pay health bills, which can cost a crazy amount!

If you're looking for travel insurance either for a short trip or while travelling as a digital nomad, take a look at SafetyWing, who offer global health and travel insurance for travellers, nomads and remote workers.

SafetyWing has two coverage levels based on your needs: Essential, which is travel medical insurance, and Complete, which is full health insurance with extra travel protections.

I have used SafetyWing travel medical insurance for several of my trips abroad, and while (thankfully!) I’ve never had to make a claim, I love how they make it really easy for you to buy and claim when you need to.

SafetyWing’s Essential Plan is ideal for short-term nomads or travellers who need emergency medical coverage while abroad. It includes trip protection for lost luggage, travel delays and interruptions, and has options for add-ons for adventure sports, electronics theft and US coverage. You can choose fixed dates for short trips, or pay on a 28-day cycle – so if you end your trip, you can end your coverage easily.

SafetyWing’s Complete Plan is designed for long-term nomads looking for both comprehensive health and travel coverage, wherever they are in the world. There is a minimum contract of 12 months, which can be paid monthly or yearly (for a 10% discount), and is renewable indefinitely.

You can sign up before your trip or while you are travelling, there is coverage across more than 180 countries (coverage in the US is extra), and SafetyWing provide 24/7 human support and a simple claims process so you can get your money back within a few days.

If you’re looking for travel insurance or health coverage for your next adventure, SafetyWing could be a great option for you! If you'd like more information you can read my full SafetyWing insurance review here, or get a quote below⬇️
